Calculation rules and limits
Words are Unicode letter/number runs with combining marks; internal apostrophes and hyphens stay within a word. Han characters count individually in Chinese mode; other words use the same rule. Emoji and punctuation are not words. Characters are Unicode code points, so a family emoji may contain several characters; graphemes count visible clusters. Paragraphs are separated by blank lines. Sentence breaks are . ! ? 。!? or line breaks (an approximate rule, including abbreviations). Positions use 1-based Unicode character offsets and line/column, never byte offsets.
Chinese counting here is not linguistic word segmentation. Sentence splitting is approximate; abbreviations and decimal points may split a sentence. Unicode combining marks count separately as characters but together as visible graphemes. No quality score or reading-grade claim is made.
How to use this tool
- Paste an excerpt, select language, and choose a phrase length.
- Read each repeated phrase at its listed positions.
- Ignore a deliberate motif or revise accidental repetition, then export the report.
Original worked example
Input
'Red light' appears at the taxi ride's first stop, departure, and final chosen pause.
Output
Three located occurrences prompt a review. Keep the recurrence when the ending changes its meaning; add it to ignored phrases for this pass if useful.
Original authored example of an editorial keep, not an automatic quality decision.
Check your result
- Are the reported locations actually the same phrase?
- Does a proposed synonym preserve a deliberate return, or erase it?
Limits and failure cases
- Runs locally; it does not decide whether repetition is meaningful.
- English uses word tokens; Chinese mode treats Han characters individually.
- Case-normalized phrase windows do not cross listed punctuation boundaries; synonyms are not counted as identical phrases.
